Schumann House Düsseldorf (2023)

2023 – Museum/Permanent Installation, Germany

The Schumann House in Düsseldorf is the only home of the musical family of Clara and Robert Schumann that has been preserved in its historical structure.

As part of an extensive refurbishment in keeping with the building’s listed status, a permanent exhibition comprising eight themed rooms on Robert and Clara Schumann’s life and work in Düsseldorf was set up on the first floor. MediaScreen was responsible for the entire media technology equipment.

A particular highlight of the exhibition is an interactive installation consisting of seven music stands and gobo projectors, which brings the network of relationships between the Schumann couple and five other contemporary personalities to life. A book assigned to one person is displayed on each of the music stands. RFID sensors are used to detect which page is open for each book, whereupon one or more historical portraits are projected onto the walls of the room by gobo projectors.
